Cigar "Bloom or Plume"

Not to be confused with blue-mold, cigar bloom or plume is a good sign. It is a reaction between moist air and the aromatic oils in a cigar.

What bloom or plume signifies is the proper RH or Relative Humidity has been achieved. If your cigars have this light grey mist on them, use a soft cloth to wipe away mist, and enjoy.

If however, you see mold which is greenish-blue in color and gives off a musty odor, those cigars should be destroyed, the humidor left open, and a solution of 50% alcohol and 50% water used to wipe the interior. Take a swab and wipe all corners. Let the humidor remain open for a day before re-stocking.

Again, cigar bloom or plume is a good sign that the humidor's gauges are working.
